Mechanical Doves

A few simple models, and the start of my Colette crew. I haven’t finished every model I’ll use with Ramos (I haven’t even finished my core crew to be honest), but I’m keen to do some more interesting colours and the showgirls will give me plenty of chances to use some pretty bright and vibrant colours.

Before that though I wanted to just get some things painted – to whit I’ve quickly done up the three Mechanical Doves that come in Colette’s box. I didn’t go wild with these; they’re pretty cool little miniatures and I think adding to much more will just make them distracting. One thing I did do with these was to paint the base colour on with an airbrush.

First the colours for the dove themselves.

  • Body Airbrush: 50% Gun Grey (VMA 71.072) & 50% Silver (VMA 71.063)
  • Airbrush Highlight: Silver (VMA 71.063)
  • Wash: Nato Camouflage Wash (A.MIG-1008)
  • Flourishes: Gold (VMC 70.996)
  • Key Base: Brass (VMC 70.801)
  • Key Wash: Tracks Wash (A.MIG-1002)
  • Eye Base: Andrea Blue (VMC 70.841)
  • Eye Highlight I: Deep Sky Blue (VMC 70.844)
  • Eye Highlight II: Sky Blue (VMC 70.961)

Now the colours for the stage floor. I want them to be fairly muted and not distract too much from the actual models. I’ll be reusing these same colours across the entire crew. I used a couple of similar browns to break up the monotony of all the planks the exact same colour.

  • Base 1: German Camouflage Pale Brown (VMC 70.825)
  • Base 2: Brown Sand (VMC 70.876)
  • Base 3: USA Tan Earth (VMC 70.874)
  • Wash: OIF & OEF Wash (AK 121)
  • Dry Brush: Iraqi Sand (VMC 70.819)
  • Patchy Dry Brush: Deck Tan (VMC 70.986)

The bases are from Fenris Games’ Nags Tavern range. I’m pretty happy with them and the only criticism I would have is the texture on the side of the base. There’s some wrinkles there that don’t ruin the look, but I’m not 100% happy with. The actual plank texture is great, and only requires a little work to remove some small resin balls from between the planks.
