Werewolves

It’s been a very unproductive few months here at Nanotanks with illness, and then a bit of a painting funk taking over for a while. I’m not sure where it came from actually – well the illness was just winter, but the funk I’m not sure. What I have been doing is playing a heap of boardgames, which has been quite a bit of fun. The last thing I posted (the Mannequins), I was quite happy with. However, that’s now behind me and with the Orc team completed I’m moving on to another Bloodbowl team to get a quick little project under my belt. A while back I orders a Necromantic team from Willy Miniatures which I recently assembled and have now started to apply paint to. Where better to start than the heroes of the team: The Werewolves.

usc-werewolfx2nullI will start with the Werewolves’ flesh and fur. For the fur I’ve wanted to do something a little more interesting than a single colour. So I opted for a grey Alaskan Wolf (see the image to the right). If you look at the images of the minis below, the white around the mouth brings the attention to all those teeth and gives it really sinister look which I think is pretty cool. I chose green for the eyes mainly to make them pop from the rest of the model; red would have been more conventional, but would have been lost with all the red already on the model. The flesh is a bit of an experiment. I didn’t want anything too bright, as it would detract from the fur – which is the real highlight. However, I wanted it to be distinct from the fur. So I went to my dirt greys which bring a green/brown tint, but don’t dominate the fur.

I’m happy with these two guys. The fur, the flesh and the uniforms all work well together. I think I’ll reuse this flesh for the Zombies, it has a bit of a necrotic look to it. But next up will be the Wights. I might have to tweak them a little, unlike every other BloodBowl model so far, they’re almost entirely clothed. So all that yellow and crimson might be a little too much.
