Elephants

I’ve got a pretty simple rule for list building Ancient Armies: take the maximum number of elephants. I don’t think this method is the best, but I like elephants and if a list can taken them then it really should. The ADLG Carthaginians can take 3, so I painted 3 elephants.

I used the same colours for the spearmen as Heavy Spear. While the javelinmen and driver were painted the same as the Light Infantry.

The miniatures are again from Magister Militum/Chariot. All 3 elephant are CAR4 – Carthaginian Elephant with Howdah, each pack contains one elephant and a couple of crew. I ended up with a few crew left over when I was done (I don’t see how you could fit a 3rd figure in the Howdah. The elephant comes in two halves with a separate head; it takes a little bit of putty and sculpting to fill in the joints and then apply some texture. The tusks, howdah and crew are all separate, but go on without any issues. There are a couple of gaps where there are gaps in the chains, but I wasn’t going to sculpt any more. All in, though they’re pretty good little miniatures. They’re based on 40mm squares and take up pretty much the entire length.
