I’ve finished the last miniature for my Orcs. I think the chainsaw star players are some of the most iconic Bloodbowl miniatures.
Very few original colours on these guys. The only thing I haven’t used on other figures is their flesh colours. Inspired by the success with my Troll I’ve put together another mix of colours that’s distinct from the other 3 combinations I’ve used (Orc, Black Orc and Troll). This combination is much more yellow with only a slight greenish tinge to the colours. Fortunately, my paint collection was initiated with a Vallejo Model Colour military set and so I have plenty of greens, browns, browny-greens and greeny-browns.
Another miniature I really like from Meiko Miniatures. While not the Troll they sell with their Orc team, I prefer this troll. He does, however, look to have some issues regenerating (hopefully that doesn’t foreshadow his in-game performance). I didn’t want to paint the flesh blue as when combined with my blue uniforms it would make everything look pretty monochromatic. Instead I picked a greenish-yellow scheme that I’m pretty happy with. I might use the same colours for my goblins.
With the recently completed Blitzers I’ve now finished with my starting Orc team. I’ve got a few more things to paint (a couple of Goblins, a Troll and a Star Player (w/ Chainsaw), but I’m going to take a little break from BloodBowl and paint some other stuff. Again most of the colours match with the linemen I painted earlier. One difference you might note is that the numbers are there. I finally found some numbers I was happy with, and after patiently waiting I’ve got them. I’ve gone back and added the numbers to the other finished guys, but I don’t think it’s worth pictures.
Some more progress with my Orcs, the Black Orc Blockers are now done. Again, I’m happy with how these are turning out; I’ve got some momentum going on with these guys.
The colours are, in large, the same as the linemen. The main difference is I used a darker skin tone on the blockers. Firstly to add a little visual interest and also to help when playing (it makes it easy for me and my opponent to identify the different player types).
Another new system? No, this system has been round for years…
My scheme is based on the Penn State University uniform: dark blue and white. Penn State was where I did my post graduate education and it seemed a good enough colour scheme to try on my orcs. The green of their skin offsets nicely and I felt like the challenge of white, but not too much white. For those who don’t follow US college football, this is what I’m going for:
