Battletech: 2nd Line Clan Mechs

Poormans Clan mechs

Late last week we had some of the Covid-19 restrictions eased, Earlier in the week somebody suggested that the maximum number of people possible gather for a game of Battletech.  Having not thrown a dice in anger in some 50+ days we jumped at it.

Poormans Clan mechs

On the Friday I was working out what mechs to take…..   I started working on some idea’s then thought, screw it I have these shinny clanners here why not use them.  A good reference for the Clan mech’s can be found here. I Looked at the BV we could use set my mind on the Warhammer IIc.  Once I got painting on friday afternoon, that turned in to the Jenner IIc and Shadowhawk IIc also getting finished, and I had also started the Marauder IIc and Rifleman IIc.  I ended up playing with the Jenner IIc and the Shadowhawk IIc, I should have taken the Warhammer IIc.

The biggest problem is that the Matt Varnish has gone all glossy, if it doesn’t matt down I will have to find some matting agent and do another coat.

I also did all the windscreens using GW Contrast paints, I have been trying to find a use for them, though this might be one.. I am wrong. while it looks ok, the same thing can be done with normal paints and much faster. I possibly didn’t take the green light enough either to give them more contrast.  but hey I got them done pretty quick.

This is my 2nd Fav of all these mech’s it has the classic Warhammer look, just bigger.

Rifleman IIc

Marauder IIc

Lefthand side Marauder IIc

Most people should know this is actually the Marauder IIc 2, but I have modified the top gun.  I do the sharp angled Marauder IIc that looks like a wedge around here somewhere, one day I will paint it up as well.

Shadowhawk IIc

This is my Fav mech, not sure what it is I like it just looks better.

Jenner IIc

Right side Jenner IIc

And this is a terrible looking mech, but hey it is a SRM carrier how pretty does it have to be.

That is it for the mechs for a moment. Before anybody ask’s yes I suffer from the “oooh Shinny” syndrome as a gamer as well.

On the Painting Table.

I still have that Sage Point I am painting.  I have done the horses, where I did them with contrast paints as well.

L’Art de la Guerre: The Monday Knights Get Biblical

L'Art de la Guerre: The Monday Knights Get Biblical 1

L'Art de la Guerre: The Monday Knights Get Biblical 2

A 200-point L’Art de la Guerre tournament in Melbourne.

Where: Auburn Bowls Club, 2B Munro St, Hawthorn East, Victoria

When: 23rd-24th May 2020

Cost: $10 for Saturday $5 for Sunday

L’Art de la Guerre (ADLG) is an enjoyable and easily learned ancients and medieval wargame. The Monday Knights wargames club will be hosting a five round, two-day tournament over the weekend of 23rd-24th May. The event will be held at Auburn Bowls Club, 2B Munro St, Hawthorn East, Victoria. As this is a licensed venue, minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The event theme is “The Monday Knights Get Biblical“ 200-point armies should be chosen from the “Ancient” and “Classical” sections of the army lists.  Allies that are from sections outside these are not permitted.

Please submit lists to adlg@mondayknights.org.au by 15th May. Please remember to specify a date for your list. If your choices cover a range of years, please pick one year.

More details on our Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/2940767079302662/

Book your spot here: https://www.mondayknights.org.au/events/lart-de-la-guerr…hts-get-biblical/

Games will begin at 10am each day. Please arrive at 9:45 Saturday for setup and registration, and by 9:45 Sunday so the draw can be done. Games will last for a maximum of 2.5 hours. There will be three rounds on Saturday, and two on Sunday.

The Monday Knights will be providing a selection of terrain, but we encourage players to bring their own as we may not have exactly what you require.

First round opponents will be chosen based on chronological proximity of their armies. From the second-round onward opponents will be chosen based on player score.  Scoring system is out lined on page 2 of this document.

The tournament will be run by three “playing umpires”. The idea of three playing umpires is that they are still able to participate in the tournament, while also running the event. Due to the clarity and quality of the ADLG rules, we’ve found that this system works quite well. Playing umpires are not allowed to adjudicate issues in a game they are involved in. If there are an odd number of players a bye round will be given to the lowest ranked player. This is counted as a 90 point win and the player receives a $5 refund (no player can receive the bye twice, the second lowest ranked player will receive the bye round in this instance).

The Monday Knights pride themselves on being a friendly and welcoming club. New players are encouraged to attend. We can provide borrowed armies and host practice games in advance of the event; just contact us to find out more.

Trophies will be awarded for:

First Place
Second Place
Third Place

Countback, if necessary to decide places at the end of the event, will be based first on if the tied players played one another, and who won. Second on strength of schedule. Third on chronological list choice, with the earlier list winning.

Into the Abyss

Vanguard Abyssal

Into the Abyss 3…the journey begins….

It has been far too long since I have had the pleasure of fantasy table top wargaming.

Mantic Games were very generous in providing a number of stater & booster sets to the Monday Nights War Game club to get us started & I was crazy enough to put my hand up to give it a crack.

So luck would have it, I ended up with second choice in the draft and I chose the “Forces from the Abyss” much to the chagrin of other fellow Knights (There were many groans when I made my choice 😀)

My choice was made wholly based on aesthetics – bright red deamons – what is not to love?

My starting point in terms of knowledge about the game is zero, but I am looking forward to putting together a cool looking  army.

I have no idea where this journey will take me, but I can’t wait to crack open the boxes & have a look at the Forces from the Abyss

Vanguard: our club, our story

Vanguard: our club, our story 4

A few weeks back Mantic Games asked for some volunteers to put together some warbands for their Fantasy skirmish game Kings of War: Vanguard. With some free toys on offer the Monday Knights were only to happy to put our name forward, and lo and behold our little antipodean club was selected to participate.

A little while later a good sized package arrived on our doorstep.
Vanguard: our club, our story 5
When we opened it up there starter sets, rulebooks, dice and terrain. More than enough for us all to get started.
Vanguard: our club, our story 6
So what we’ll be doing over the next few weeks is gluing, painting, crafting and all that sort of hobby stuff to get the minis looking good. Because they look pretty good now before any of us have put paint on. We’ve got a mix of different skill levels too, so you’ll hopefully find someone who paints at your level putting out miniatures.

We got 6 different factions, so things started by dividing out the factions, so here is what everyone has:

  • Northern Alliance: Nanotanks (that’s me!)
  • Trident Realms: Lord T
  • Forces of the Abyss: General Potus
  • Nightstalkers: Floppy
  • Basileans: Crudboy
  • Forces of Nature: Paul

Once we have some things painted, and in fact probably before, we’ll start playing some games and doing some battle reports. We’ll probably get into a campaign too once we’ve learnt the rules and experimented a little with the different options.
What that does mean is the non-Vanguard content will probably drop off a little for a couple of months. We’ll still be doing other things and there’s a whole club of other people to create content, but we want to give Vanguard a fair shake so that means dedicating ourselves a little. Some of Crudboy’s fantasy terrain will no doubt also get a feature.

Launching our new Blog. 7
Launching our new Blog. 8

In the past a number of us have had our own little blogs, but with time we each are having less and less time to do the content needed to maintain a blog.  Discussion were had and in typical Monday Knight fashion we have rushed in with no planing hoping to not roll a double 1.

Launching our new Blog. 9

The plan is for those of us who have blogs that we don’t wish to maintain, is to slowly migrate them over to here.   Any sort of planing here will most likely go out the window and it will be on big hit.

Who is going to be writing, these are possibly the things we should plan better, right now we are in discussions on this.  A number of us have put our hands up but we are yet to confirm what we are going to do. Like most things we will wing it and see what happens.

Launching our new Blog. 10
Burning down our own blogs for this new shinny blog

Our overall rough plan is to do what we have been doing on our personal blogs but more people. We will be able to do a little of the work spread across more people to produce better content, or at least that is our plan.

I guess that is it from me, stay tuned as our new blog gets new and old content. News of events and all sorts of things are going to be posted right here.
